Rahul Mishra Biography

Born in the sleepy village of Malhausi in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul spent his childhood with his parents and two sisters. Rahul's educational foundations were laid at a nearby government school followed by a graduate degree in Physics from Kanpur University (now known as Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University).

Mishra's discovered his knack for art, culture and music when he went to the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad for a post graduate degree, which later turned out to be a turning point of his career. There, he was awarded the Best Student Designer Of The Year in 2005. Mishra made his debut in 2006 at Lakme Fashion Week with a collection using cotton handloom textiles from Kerala, especially off-white fabric with golden border of Kerala mundu. His debut collection helped him bag a scholarship at the Istituto Marangoni in Milan for diploma in fashion designing.

The designer launched his eponymous label Rahul Mishra in the year 2008 in Mumbai. The year 2014 saw Rahul Mishra rise to the global stage when he won the prestigious International Woolmark Prize. His award-winning capsule range, "The Lotus Effect" was based on the hexagon shapes and lotus motifs. The collection incorporated Chanderi fabric woven with 85% Merino wool with woolen zardozi embroidery by craftsmen of Kolkata. This was followed by his international debut in the Paris Fashion Week in 2015.

Currently, the label retails in the leading fashion stores and online portals across the world as well as some select boutique across India.
